Due to some very hard working Friends, we have been able to raise over $1000 in the last 12 months, much of that from the BBQ during the Fringe. The committee has discussed the idea of having an Emerging (new) Local Artist Support Scheme and will launch this later in the year.
Application forms will be distributed and a committee will select a worthy artist. A maximum $ amount each year will be identified, which can be used by the chosen artist for development of their show. Ideas could include help with printing or marketing etc. and of course, Friends would be invited to the show and meet the artist.
Achievements since FOHST was developed:
Which is not bad for the first 12 months.
However, we need to consolidate and build on these achievements. Therefore, some of our goals for the next 12 months include:
So as you can see, there are many opportunities for volunteering and working with us. We require a larger Ushering and Box office base outside of the Fringe and training and support is always provided. We also need volunteers to take responsibility for specific areas, a few that immediately come to mind are the grounds/garden (not onerous but very important) a group of people to take responsibility for the BBQ during the warmer months and a Treasurer.
To those who already do so much, a big thank you and long may you continue.
Every cent Holden Street makes goes back into the venue to support artists and keep the place running. However, it is still a commercial business and therefore not eligible for many of the funding sources. It simply doesn’t make enough to cover its demands and as a result we need help to support companies by providing Front of House, maintenance and up keep of the building.
We receive a great deal of help over the Fringe period through our volunteer program but we need to spread this throughout the year as well.
We have a huge amount of love and support from you, our audience and we’d like to ask you to become more involved and join our Friends of Holden Street Theatres.
From a night for ushering here and there through to skilled workers able to offer their expertise and time for specific projects, The Friends will help in many ways and the commitment level is up to you.
The Fringe volunteer program will still be in play to boost the numbers through this busy time but again you can commit to more if it’s of interest to you.
Through the friends you will keep Holden Street alive and running and enabling us to offer support to companies that need it to create performing arts.
You’ll meet like-minded people in a safe and fun environment and be involved in a creative community
You’ll be supporting live theatre and local artists and have the opportunity to meet local and international stars of the stage. And, you’ll be a part of one of the most important theatre venues in South Australia
